Lila LaVaye Farquhar, age 89, formerly of Morenci, Michigan, passed away peacefully at home in Conroe, Texas, on November, 14, 2019.

In the habit of following her big brother, Merle, off to school in rural Morenci, the teachers went  ahead and placed Lila in Kindergarten at age 4 and, as a result, she graduated from Morenci High School at age 17, in the class of 1947. Upon marriage on May 1st of 1948, Lila and Bill raised their three children in Morenci while she also worked in the accounting department for many years at M&S Manufacturing in Morenci, and then in Hudson. Lila retired from M&S in 1988 and soon thereafter moved to Coldwater, Michigan to Bill’s dream of a “House on a lake with a boat.” Lila and Bill then relocated to a warmer climate, building a house beside Lake Conroe in Willis, TX, in 1996. This brought them nearer their daughters and their families in the greater Houston metropolitan area. Lila was very active with her friends and neighbors in Willis as a member of their Monday Mahjong Club, and many other social activities as her neighborhood “posse” made the rounds of weekly restaurant lunches and shopping trips. She was also a member of the First United Methodist Church of Conroe, TX.

Lila is survived by her daughters, Vickie Hyland of The Woodlands, TX, Linda Jones, of Katy, TX, and her son Jack (and Shelley) Farquhar, of Sebring, FL, as well as grandchildren , Kelly (and Darrin) Chippi, of Katy, TX, Brian (and Laura) Jones, of Conroe, TX, Whitney (and Jarred) Beck, of Huntsville, AL, Holly (and John) Jackson, of Indianapolis, IN, and Leslie Deatrick of Knoxville, TN, and great-grandchildren, Sheldon, Samuel, and Spencer Jones, of Conroe, TX,; Nicole, Brooke, and Kyle Chippi of Katy, TX.; Elijah, Enoch, Ezekiel, Elisha, and Eliana Jackson, of Indianapolis, IN, and Jackson Beck, of Huntsville, AL.

In addition to her parents and husband of nearly 50 years, Bill, Lila was preceded in death by one sister in infancy, Verelda, two brothers and their wives, Merle (and Eloise) Stoops, of Morenci, MI, and Darl (and Pat) Stoops of Bryan, OH, and her son-in-law, Daniel Jones of Katy, TX.

No public services will be held, and Lila will be laid to rest next to her husband in Morenci’s Oak Grove Cemetery. A Memorial Service is planned at her church in Conroe, TX at a future date.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the First United Methodist Church of Conroe, TX.

Local arrangements have been handled by the Eagle Funeral Home in Morenci, Michigan.
