Michael D. Booth, of Osseo MI and formerly of Perrysburg Ohio, passed away September 1, 2019 at the age of 78 in his home surrounded by his loving family and his dog, Petey. He was born September 4, 1940 in San Diego, CA to Capt. Blake and Louise (Denison) Booth.
He was a devoted husband to the love of his life and best friend Barbara (Blanke) Booth for nearly 56 years, a loving father to his two daughters Holly (James) Hassall of Osseo and Sarah Booth of Baton Rouge, exceptional grandfather to three grandchildren Shelby, Lillian and Blake and a caring uncle to nieces and nephews.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Susan Mitchell.
As the son of a U.S. Navy officer, Mike was fortunate to visit every state in the U.S. with the exception of Hawaii. He was a graduate of Maury High School in Norfolk, VA. While attending college at William and Mary - Norfolk, VA he met and followed Barbara back to Toledo where they were married September 14, 1963. When he arrived in Toledo he attended Toledo University and held a variety of jobs such as a high climber for a high voltage service firm, a funeral home attendant, service station operator, factory worker, and manager trainee for a national retail chain. He also served his country in both the U.S. Army and Ohio Air National Guard Reserves.
Michael finally found his niche in the financial field working for People’s Savings Bank and Charter One Bank for nearly 28 years. He retired as a branch manager on the same day as his wife on January 8, 1999. While working, he still found time to enjoy golfing, bowling, playing racquetball and was an avid trap shooter. He volunteered time to the Boy Scouts and Junior Achievement and after retirement volunteered as a driver for Swan Creek assisted living.
Mike loved life and socializing with family and friends. He enjoyed hosting Pie Night, an event that spanned 10 years, as well as a variety of game nights. Any event where serving one of his infamous margaritas could be enjoyed was always welcome.
Michael was also a passionate reader. Rarely would you find him without a book in his hand or within arm’s reach. He could frequently be quoted to say, “only a few pages left in this chapter then I’ll be right there” when being asked to join in with some event happening. In the days leading to his passing, it was discussed that he wasn’t quite done with his book, he had a few pages left. His chapter is finished. His book is set down. And he’s resting comfortably at the feet of our Lord.
